ST. RITA of CASCIA Memorial: May 22
Rita of Cascia is well-known
as a patron of desperate, seemingly impossible causes and situations. This is because she has been involved in so many stages
of life - wife, mother, widow, and nun, she buried her family, helped bring peace to her city Unmbria in Italy, saw her dreams
denied and fulfilled - and never lost her faith in God, or her desire to be with Him
Prayer: Holy Patroness of
those in need, Saint Rita , you were humble, pure and patient. Your pleadings with your divine Spouse are irresistible, so
please obtain for me from our risen Jesus the request I make of you: (mention your petition). Be kind to me for the greater
glory of God, and I shall honor you and sing your praise forever. Glorious St. Rita, you miraculously participated in the
sorrowful passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. Obtain for me now the grace to suffer with resignation the troubles of this life,
and protect me in all my needs. Amen.

THE NEW ORLEANS
CATHOLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM is the oldest in the U.S. Catholic education began when the Ursuline Sisters arrived in
the city over 283 years ago. St. Rita opened its doors in 1924. We take time to thank all of the Marianite Sisters
of Holy Cross, the Dominicans and other religious who have ministered at St. Rita. We thank all the devoted lay teachers
who have made sacrifices to support the system. We thank the pastors and parishioners of St. Rita Church for their support.
We thank all the parents who have entrusted their children's education to us. We thank and congratulate our alumni who
have become leaders in a variety of professions and have spread the message of Christ's love and compassion. Last, but
not least, we thank the Archdiocese for its faith in us and its generous financial support, especially since Katrina. During the national week of celebrating Catholic Schools, we asked out 8th Graders to brainstorm about what makes
us different. We are proud to share their thoughts with you. - Catholic
schools teach religion, prayer, and Christian values. Jesus is the focus.
- Catholic
schools demand discipline to create a learning atmosphere.
- Our school
has teaching nuns.
- Catholic schools have unselfish teachers who have high
expectations of their students to help them succeed in the future.
- Catholic
schools provide a safe environment.
- Catholic schools are more like a family.
